webMethods Selects Agitar in Continued Commitment to Highest Software Quality

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., June 15, 2004 – Agitar Software, an innovator in Enterprise Developer Testing, announced today that webMethods, Inc. (Nasdaq: WEBM) has selected Agitar’s products and services as a means of continuing webMethods’ strong commitment to highest software quality. webMethods, Inc. is a supplier of Web services infrastructure software and serves more than 1,100 enterprise customers worldwide.

"We are a very customer-focused company and have always had a strong commitment to providing the highest quality software to our customers," said Kristin Weller, executive vice president, Product Development, webMethods, Inc. "By leveraging Agitar, we are able to empower our developers to verify the quality of their code before it goes to system integration and QA. Agitar will assist webMethods in ensuring the delivery of high-quality code in hand-offs between engineering and QA, and maintaining the lowest possible number of escaped defects."

According to market analyst firm IDC, software testing needs to occur earlier in the application development life-cycle. "Making it easier for the development team to implement and manage unit testing is an essential part of raising the quality of the software product that is ultimately delivered," said Melissa Webster, Research Director at IDC. "Catching software defects as close to the developer's desktop as possible improves software development productivity, shortens development cycles (and speeds time to market), and reduces risk in product delivery."

"We are impressed by webMethods’ serious approach to software quality, and are excited to be a part of their global initiative," says Jerry Rudisin, CEO of Agitar Software. "Few people would test-fly an airplane before its components have been subjected to exhaustive unit-tests, but that's how most organizations develop software -- they do not test the individual units before they're integrated into the full system. Market leaders such as webMethods see that thorough unit-testing offers compelling benefits, and are embracing our solution to make their development teams more efficient and more successful at lower cost."

Under the agreement, webMethods has purchased Agitar’s Agitator for its developers, and the Agitar Management Dashboard for ongoing development projects. Agitar will also supply installation, training, mentoring and support.

Agitator intelligently exercises Java code to discover its behavior. Developers can convert Agitator’s observations into unit tests with a single click. This unique process, called "software agitation," helps developers create thorough sets of reusable unit tests. It lets them edit and expand their code with confidence, helping them prevent errors as they write or modify their programs.

The Agitar Management Dashboard gives unprecedented data, visibility, and control over the developer testing process. Dashboard lets development teams set testing targets based on risks, resource availability and schedules. It gives in-depth reports on the test quality of the program with details by project, package, class and method.
